Spreading Christmas cheer in Darfield

We try to teach our children of the need to think about others.

As part of this, we have tried to support the elderly in our local community this Christmas through a number of events.

The residents of Thornhill House Care Home and the folks from Darhaven Community Centre were invited along as special guests at a KS1 Nativity performance just for them.

In partnership with Thornhill House, we collected items that would be suitable for elderly folk at Christmas. Year 4,alongside some of the Thornhill House residents,  then packed and wrapped up in shoe boxes which will be delivered to elderly patients in hospital who would otherwise be alone and present-less on Christmas Day. Year 4 then entertained teh residents with a number of Christmas carols.

As a staff, we are asking that instead of Christmas gifts for us, that parents would instead donate food items which we can then deliver to the Barnsley Food bank. In this way we hope to spread a little Christmas cheer to those who are less fortunate.

Year 4 and 5 choir performed a number of Christmas songs for the folks at the Darhaven Community Centre.
