On the 100th anniversary of the end of the battle of Passchendaele we had our Remembrance Service in school and used the centenary as the focus.
Later in the day our School Ambassadors and Year 6 laid a wreath at the grave of Private Joseph Wigley in our local church yard.
Private Wigley was wounded in the battle of Passchendaele and invalided back to Britain for treatment. Unfortunately he died as a result of wounds and pneumonia.
The children laid the wreath and then recited a Remembrance poem they had prepared for our service.
